Java Server Runtime unit is responsible for delivering the ultimate Java foundation for the SAP NetWeaver® Java Platform.

Department’s focus includes the following aspects:
· Java Server Core – focusing on topics like clustering, resource management, VM integration, scalability and problem analysis;
· Web technologies – providing leading web standards implementations, supporting their adoption. Defining the upcoming future Java standards by participating in the Java Community Process Specification Requests;
· Deployment infrastructure – implementing scalable, robust and reliable infrastructure for delivering, lifecycle management and administration of large volumes of Java applications within the Java Application Server, creating its core infrastructure;
· Remote protocols and session management – investing in creating the most efficient remote protocols implementation for standard and proprietary connectivity through HTTP, RMI, IIOP/CORBA. Another challenge is to design and provide a vision on how user session is to be structured in a large and highly dynamic stack of different java applications.

As a high-focus growing area - currently, we are looking for talented and motivated software engineers to address the next challenges in our area, such as:
· Industry standards – get involved and drive the adoption within the Java Server of relevant industry Java standards;
· Improved cluster management and scalability;
· Focus on Performance – get involved in the performance competition with other application server vendors like BEA, IBM, Oracle and Sun;
· Consolidation of the existing lifecycle management infrastructure;
· Automated problem analysis infrastructure;
· Self healing concept for Java Application Server.

Responsibilities
· Responsible for design, development, and maintenance of SAP standards compliant software using Java SE and Java EE technologies in Java Server Runtime area
· Plans and coordinates development activities of small to medium-size project teams, including cross-teams
· Reports project status to stakeholders and management
· Applies SAP standard development processes and participating in process improvements
· Applies new development methodologies for agile development (SixSigma, SCRUM, etc.)
· Generates and exchanges ideas for new innovative approaches and solutions
· Responsible for quick prototyping and concepts validation
· Continuously learns to effectively address new opportunities and challenges
· Maintains focus on product integration and shipment readiness
· Provides support to internal and external customers
· Proactively finds solutions to meet customers’ needs

Requirements
· University Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
· In-depth Java development knowledge (full-time professional development experience)
· Thorough understanding of performance measurements, data structures and algorithms
· Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
· Strong leadership skills
· Open-minded, willing to explore new areas and provide prototypes fast
· Very good English
· Excellent communication skills and ability to negotiate and explain details
· Strong team player
· Experience with any of the following will be considered as an advantage: Other object-oriented programming languages and enterprise development platforms (.NET), Java IDEs, XML, Web Services, UML, Software design patterns, SAP proprietary technologies (WebDynpro, NWDI), Operating Systems (Windows, Unix/Linux), Databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server)
