Our client, GE Energy, has a vacant position for Design Engineer Structural Components.
The Design Engineer will work in the Frames and Hub Team of the Wind Drive Train and Gearbox Centre of Excellence (CoE) and will be responsible for the development and assessments of in-house designed components using simulation tools (FEA, Fatigue, BEM etc.). The position reports to the Manager Drive Train, Europe.
The Engineer would act as component owner for various structural components like:
• Castings
• Forgings
• Fabrications
• Bolts
• Main bearing housing
As component owner the Engineer is responsible for the entire path from design, including validation, to manufacturing of the mentioned components, within also the responsibility of the corresponding parts inside of the BoM, including:
• Designing of parts and assemblies for a Wind Turbine (WT)
• Coordinate design efforts and deliverables (documentation, specifications, drawings and BoM), based on Product Specification and other CTQs
• Production and revision of specifications, work desk instruction (WDI) and Operation and Maintenance Manuals for WT Structural Components
• Prepare third party certification documentation and execute the certification process (GL, DNV, TUEV, etc.)
• Work with global and cross-functional teams for structural components throughout design process (concept through delivery)
• Work closely with the Technical Leader and global team members to ensure high quality and on-time delivery for all engineering assignments (e.g. qualification of design & suppliers, first piece qualification, fulfillment, root cause analysis, cost out activities, )
• Optimization and improvement of existing components
• Calculation of add-on pieces and connection elements for selected components
• Preparation and release of 3D data sets for the FEA-department and component manufacturers
• Develop and specify test and validation plans
• Leverage and implement Design Practices, DFR and DFSS
Qualifications:
• Bachelor, MS. Mechanical Engineer or Dipl.-Ing. (FH/TH/TU).
• Knowledge on materials and experience with fatigue calculations.
• FEA proficiency, preferable experience with the software tool ANSYS.
• Experience & skills in structural mechanics and dynamics.
• Knowledge about different manufacturing processes - castings, forging, welding.
• Demonstrated communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries.
• Fluent in German and English (spoken and written).
Knowledge of wind turbine structural components design or related field is desired, as well as GE Business tools and practices expertise and proficiency with 3D CAD system UniGraphics (UG).
